Therapist and writer
based at the Southside Counselling Centre in Glasgow
I am an experienced counsellor offering short or long term therapy and counselling to anyone who feels stuck with their thoughts, feelings, moods, situations or repetitive patterns. I help people who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or unable to cope, either with a specific situation or without any apparent reason. I provide a genuine listening ear to anyone, anywhere in the world, who needs a free, nonjudgmental space in which to look at their lives, past, present and future.
Counselling in Glasgow, Poland and online
registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy
I have over 15 years of counselling experience in both Poland and the UK and I am registered with the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by their code of ethics and practice.
I work in both my native English and in Polish, and I have a strong Polish client base, both in Glasgow and around the world. I am also open to clients who wish to work in French.
I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Person Centred Counselling and a PhD on the topics of counselling, focusing and Buddhist philosophy, both from the University of East Anglia.
I work with people suffering from all kinds of distress, including anxiety and depression, abusive relationships, inter-cultural issues and self-harm. I can help with unblocking all kinds of human situations or creative processes that seem stuck.
I have a special interest and expertise in working with people who live in cross-cultural situations, maybe living abroad or using more than one language at home and/or at work. I have personal as well as professional experience in this area.
Counselling and therapy with me
What to expect
I am person, rather than problem centered. I believe that deep, nonjudgmental listening and being a skilful companion are the most important factors. The effectiveness of your therapy is largely down to the relationship between you and me.
So while I do not use 'one size fits all' techniques, I will propose certain methods if it seems to me that they might help us move forward more effectively. These might include focusing (a gentle, bodily-based technique, that can quickly and effectively help when words are not enough), body-based relaxation techniques, mindfulness and cognitive strategies for dealing with intrusive thoughts and anxieties, techniques inspired by gestalt therapy that can resolve difficult relationships without the people concerned being present, and creative, expressive methods such as drawing, writing and movement. I am also happy to learn about whatever techniques you have found that work for you.
Each individual therapy session will last for 50 minutes and costs £40. All of our counselling sessions will be conducted in the strictest of confidence. You can find out more about my privacy promise here.
Length of therapy
The amount of sessions you have is entirely up to you. I am happy to undertake both short term work, focused on a particular goal or specific problem, and open ended, long term work. I can usually give you a sense of how long the work might take after our first session. It's helpful to keep discussing our progress as we go, and especially to discuss when you feel that you no longer need therapy. The decision of when to end is always yours.
